Southern California Borderland Tectonics
San Clemente Fault

Perspective view of the San Clemente Fault, and South San Clemente Basin (view from the South). Bathymetry compiled by the OSU Active Tectonics Lab. Foreground anticline is a restraining bend fold caused by a strike change in the main fault. Note the abandoned channel now on the fold flank.

Left: Detail of the restraining bend fold along the San Clemente Fault.  The structure is composed of both positive and negative flower structures within an overall 5 degree restraining step.

Below: Scarp along the northern end of the restraining bend showing Late Holocene rupture

Below: Reconstruction of 60 km right slip on the San Clement Fault, and partial reconstruction of 32 km of right slip and oblique extension on the San Deigo Trough Fault.
